Chas Cale is the owner of a restaurant in London. He is a gangster who Gene had tried to send down in Manchester years earlier, and whose MO was therefore very familiar to the DCI. He is suspected of robbing a post office. It turns out that Cale, despite his age, had organised the robbery, as well as murdering Billy Dane and attempting to murder DI Alex Drake after she uncovered his secret.
He has a wife called Joan, who is very much a "Lady Macbeth" figure in his life story.
He is portrayed by Phil Davis.
