Marc Bolan (30 September 1947 – 16 September 1977) was an English musician and founder/lead singer of the band T. Rex in 1967. In 1977, the band broke up after Bolan was killed in a car crash in a Mini.
Life on MarsEdit
When inside Steven Warren's club, "The Warren", to "apologise" for his previous actions, DI Sam Tyler recognised a small number of famous people in the VIP area, including footballers Bobby Charlton and Dennis Law. Also among the patrons was Marc Bolan, who DCI Gene Hunt had never heard of, but Tyler was amazed. While Hunt told Warren of their presence, Sam spoke to Bolan and told him he was a fan and warned him to "drive carefully, especially in Minis".
To avoid using his real name in front of the 1973 counterpart of his mother, Tyler used the pseudonym of "Detective Inspector Bolan" which he later revealed to be fake (Series 1: Episode 4).
Behind the ScenesEdit
- The scene between Sam Tyler and Marc Bolan was later reused in the American remake of Life on Mars. Instead of Marc Bolan, Jim Croce was featured, who also died in an accident.
- Marc Bolan is also mentioned in the Pilot of "Alphas", presumably to show the depth and range of Dr. Lee Rosen's musical knowledge and tastes.
